Post 1: Using The Wind To Get To The Clouds

communicationPost 1

Today is the first day I have  used only the MSI Wind Netbook and cloud applications.  I have to say that is has been a little bit of a transition.  For instance I really liked an image that I have in my Picasa photo library and only wanted to cut out a small portion to use and I couldn't use my typical keyboard shortcut, apple+shift+4 to do an isolated screen capture.  Very simple and typical everyday use for me that forced me to use something else.  Not a big deal!

Using the Wind to Get to the Clouds

msi1Ok...so I have set out looking for a viable option to increase amount of mobile technology for my school that I work for.  My initial thought was to continue buying laptops at a rate of 10 a year due to budget limitations.  Then I thought I could save a few dollars and use open source software to replace my current apps that I have to purchase and maintain.  That would allow me to purchase only a few more a year.  Finally, I came to the conclusion of expanding my current use of Cloud Applications and that opened up my options for mobile technology.  Now my students would not require a full on laptop.  They could manage with something less robust.  I researched quite a few mini laptops as well as netbooks.  Atlast I decided to demo the MSI Wind.  My goal is to use the Wind for 30 days as my main latop for work and then pass it on to a student.  I want to see if it can replace my current laptop and  student laptop, a MacBook.  This may be very difficult for my due to the fact that I love my MacBook.
